How to Scan Document from Brother Printer to Computer

Brother printers with scanning capability can send scans directly to your computer using the scan button, Brother ControlCenter, or Brother iPrint&Scan.

Method 1: Use the Scan Button on the Printer

  1. Place the document face-down on the scanner glass or face-up in the ADF
  2. Press the Scan button on the printer
  3. Use the arrow keys to select Scan to PC
  4. Select File, Email, Image, or OCR
  5. Press OK or Start
  6. The scan is sent to the default folder on your computer (usually Documents > Brother)

Method 2: Brother iPrint&Scan (Windows/Mac)

  1. Open Brother iPrint&Scan on your computer
  2. Click Scan
  3. Adjust settings: color/mono, resolution, file type
  4. Click Scan to begin
  5. Save the scanned file to your chosen location

Method 3: Windows Fax and Scan (WIA)

  1. Open Windows Fax and Scan from the Start menu
  2. Click New Scan
  3. Select your Brother printer as the scanner
  4. Set resolution, color, and format options
  5. Click Scan

Method 4: Scan to Email

  1. Press Scan on the printer
  2. Select Scan to Email
  3. Select your email client
  4. The scan attaches to a new email draft

Tip: Increase Scan Resolution

For documents that will be OCR'd or zoomed in on, use 300 DPI or higher. For previews and quick reference, 150 DPI is sufficient.
