HP Printer Ink Replacement Guide

Replacing ink cartridges in HP printers is a quick process that takes under 5 minutes. This guide covers all major HP printer series.

HP OfficeJet and DeskJet Cartridge Replacement

1. With the printer powered on, open the front door or cartridge access door
2. Wait for the carriage to move to the access position (center)
3. Press down on the empty cartridge to release it, then pull it out
4. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging and pull off the orange pull tab and protective tape
5. Do NOT touch the gold contacts or ink nozzles
6. Slide the cartridge into its slot at a slight angle and push until it clicks
7. Close the access door — the printer will align cartridges automatically

HP ENVY Cartridge Replacement

The process is the same as OfficeJet. HP ENVY typically uses HP 63, 65, 302, or 304 series cartridges. Check the cartridge slot or the door label for your specific series number.

HP LaserJet Toner Replacement

1. Open the front door of the LaserJet
2. Pull the toner cartridge straight out
3. Gently shake the new toner cartridge side-to-side 5–6 times to distribute toner
4. Remove the plastic pull tab/sealing tape from the new cartridge
5. Slide the new cartridge in until it locks
6. Close the front door

The correct cartridge number is printed:

• Inside the cartridge access door
• In the HP Smart app under Supplies
• On your printer's original box
