An Epson printer printing blank pages is almost always caused by clogged print head nozzles, empty cartridges, or air trapped in the ink system. Here's how to fix it.

Step 1: Check Ink Levels

Open Epson Status Monitor or the printer display. If any cartridge is empty or very low, replace it before running any cleaning cycles.

Step 2: Run Print Head Cleaning

1. Open the Epson Printer Utility (Windows: Maintenance tab in printer preferences; Mac: from the Epson Utility app)
2. Click Head Cleaning
3. Follow the prompts and print the nozzle check pattern
4. If gaps appear, run cleaning again (up to 3 cycles)

Step 3: Run Print Head Alignment

After cleaning, print a head alignment pattern from the same Epson Utility to ensure nozzles are firing correctly.

Step 4: Check the Nozzle Check Pattern

Print a nozzle check from Epson Utility > Nozzle Check. If any color rows are missing or broken, that color's nozzles are clogged.

Step 5: Perform a Power Ink Flushing Cycle

For severely clogged EcoTank printers:

1. In Epson Utility, look for Power Ink Flushing (available on select models)
2. Run the cycle — note this uses significant ink

Step 6: Manually Clean the Print Head

1. Remove the ink cartridges
2. Dampen a cotton swab with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol (70%)
3. Gently wipe the print head contacts
4. Let dry completely before reinstalling cartridges

Step 7: Check Paper Settings

Printing on glossy or specialty paper requires matching paper type settings. A mismatch can cause ink not to adhere, appearing as a blank page.
